Parker & Son (Printers) Ltd has taken the first two units totalling 4,800 sq ft in Burton-on-Trent's latest new industrial development, Wetmore Malsters, which is attracting strong interest from local and regional businesses inspite of the global slowdown in the commercial property market.

Developers Odin Estates, who are backed by Hillary’s Properties Ltd, which is transforming a three-acre former maltings site close to the town centre into a major industrial and commercial business centre.

Parker & Son, Burton's longest established family-owned colour and commercial printers founded in 1896, is relocating from Guild Street where it’s present site has been sold for residential development.

Wetmore Malsters comprises 31,350 sq ft of industrial/warehouse space in 11 units from 1,524 sq ft. The new development adjoins The Maltings, a refurbished three-storey maltings building which provides nine studio/office, workshop units totalling 57.324 sq ft.

Matthew Parker, managing director of Parker & Son, said: “The move from Guild Street, where we have been since 1938, enables us to further modernize our operations and gives provision for future expansion.”

Cliff Dare, director of Odin, who welcomed Parker & Son as the first occupiers, said: “We are very pleased with the high level of interest in this development. Another unit is in solicitors hands and there is strong interest from both local and regional concerns in three others.

“Both Burton’s industrial and office markets remain resilient and there is keen demand from successful local businesses which wish to own their own premises.”

Rushton Hickman and North Rae Sanders are Odin Estates’ joint agents. Phil Randle of Salloways acted for Parker & Son.
