EX-BASS BOYS PLAN SUMMER START FOR
BURTON DEVELOPMENT
A £7 mil project to refurbish and convert a listed former Bass maltings
building in Burton-upon-Trent to provide freehold offices and workshops for
owner occupiers, has been given the green light by East Staffordshire planners.
Odin Estates, a property company set up and run by two former Bass surveyors,
together with their joint venture partners Hillarys Developments, have secured
a resolution to grant planning consent to transform the impressive three-storey
81,000 sq ft building in Wetmore Road into a terrace of attractive offices,
workshops, studios and warehouses.
The development, to be known as The Maltings, will offer self-contained units
from 4,500 sq ft to 12,000 sq ft. Adjacent to the restored building, Odin
and Hillary Developments will also build a new 30,000 sq ft industrial development
to be called The Malsters. This part of the development project will provide
small freehold industrial units from 2,000 sq ft to 3,500 sq ft, a size range
which is much in demand by local businesses but in short supply.
Cliff Dare and Iain Masters, directors of Odin Estates, who acquired the three-acre
site last year, are now preparing to start construction in the early summer.
" This is a very exciting part of the regeneration of Burton and we are
keen to get started," explained Mr Dare. "We appreciate the numerous
very favourable comments from council members on the Planning Committee. The
members liked the design and our sensitive treatment of the listed building. Many
of them appeared to share our enthusiasm for the scheme."
He added: "Whilst the first units will not be ready until the end of
the year, we are already in discussions with a number of local firms for pre-sales
of both the industrial units and the refurbished Maltings units."
The joint agents are North Rae Sanders and Rushton Hickman. Hillary's are
being advised by Fisher Hargreaves Proctor. For further information contact
